Despite being involved in a relegation battle with Hamburg, attacking midfielder Calhanoglu has been in fine form this season. The 20-year-old has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances.
Liverpool and Arsenal are rumoured to be keen on Calhanoglu, but Chelsea appear to be leading the race for his signature.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have scouted Calhanoglu on multiple occasions and transfer negotiations are ongoing, with the Blues wanting to pay around £7.5m and Hamburg holding out for a fee closer to £12m.
Calhanoglu has over four years left to run on his current contract at the Imtech Arena.
After representing Turkey at five different youth levels, Calhanoglu made his senior international debut for Fatih Terim’s side in September last year, featuring as a substitute in a 5-0 win over Andorra.
Calhanoglu likes to operate from the left side of the pitch and he is a set piece specialist.
Fans in Germany have dubbed him the next Mesut Ozil, who is also of Turkish decent.
