Arsenal still have chance to bring Germany international to Emirates Stadium after reports of done deal with Borussia Dortmund were denied.
Arsenal could yet sign SC Freiburg youngster Matthias Ginter this summer after his Bundesliga club denied any deal had been done with Borussia Dortmund.
The 20 year-old Germany international has shone at the back for Freiburg, despite their struggling season, and his ability to slot in well at both centre back and defensive midfield is naturally enticing for the clubs eyeing his signature.
Despite reports last week suggesting a deal had been concluded for Ginter to move to Borussia Dortmund, SC Freiburg sporting director Jochen Saier explained that while there had been talks, no agreement had been reached.
“We have not had an offer from Borussia Dortmund, but there were detailed discussions,” said Saier to German publication Kicker.
“What was reported was not true.
“That’s all there is to it.”
Ginter too was asked about the rumours but was naturally reluctant to reveal much.
“There is nothing concrete,” said the player prior to his team’s crunch game against Eintracht Braunschweig.
As recently as a month ago, Arsenal were reportedly leading the chase to sign Ginter, but at present it would appear that Borussia Dortmund have made the most progress on a prospective deal.
Arsene Wenger will have to move fast if he is to bring Matthias Ginter to Emirates Stadium.
