CaughtOffside understands that David Moyes has been keeping a close watch of the French top flight this term and has identified three players that he hopes to spend a portion of his £200m windfall on at the end of the season.
Knowing full well that he needs to strengthen his squad in every position, the Scot has targeted one defender, and two midfielders to add to his roster with Marseille playmaker Mathieu Valbuena, Lyon defensive midfielder Gueida Fofana and Paris Saint Germain full-back Lucas Digne all on his wish list.
Valbuena has already told Marseille that he is looking for a fresh challenge this summer after spending eight years at the club, and has apparently hinted that he would be open to making the move to Old Trafford after pricing himself out of a transfer in 2011.
Moyes is also looking to add depth the his midfield by bringing young Lyon midfielder Fofana. The 22-year-old linked up with the former champions back in 2011 and has risen through the ranks of the French national youth set up to the verge of the senior side.
He has also been such an integral part of the Lyon squad that he has already graduated to the role of vice captain at just 22-years-old. He has been scouted by a number of sides over the course of the season, but none of the sides said to be able to compete with the financial clout that United will have at their disposal.
And Moyes will look to complete his trilogy of signings by making an aggressive move for Paris Saint Germain youngster Lucas Digne.
The 20-year-old has been heralded as one of the country’s brightest young talents, but has struggled to break into the first team since arriving from Lille last summer.
With Patrice Evra set to depart at the end of the season United will be in desperate need of a player that will be able to slot into the space left by the experienced stopper.
Moyes will hope that the lure of regular first team football at such a prestigious club will be a major selling point for the recent France international.
