Serie A giants Roma are set to rival Manchester United for the signature of highly sought after defender Davide Astori this summer, according to Football Direct News.

The Italian international has been billed as one of Serie A’s best performing defenders over recent seasons and was linked with Premier League Southampton last summer before Manchester United declared their interest in him.
However, fellow Italian side Roma are looking to rival the interest from England with their own move for the 27-year-old this summer as he has been tipped to finally leave the Sardinian outfit at the end of the season.
Coach Rudi Garcia has seen his side’s title challenge fade away over the past few weeks and is hoping to make some quality additions ahead of making a fresh challenge for the Scudetto next term.
Roma are also said to be planning for the possible departure of centre-back Mehdi Benatia, who has himself been linked with a switch to Manchester United, and Astori will most possible be considered as a like for like replacement for the talented Moroccan.
