In an effort to freshen up his back-line David Moyes is ready to make a move for Real Madrid youngster Raphael Varane.
The 20 year old is said to have a £25m release clause that Man United are happy to trigger though Moyes will probably have to fight Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to land the impressive young French international.
During Mourinho’s last season at the Bernabeu Varane was afforded a great deal of responsibility, the centre-back making 28 starts in all competitions, but this season he’s managed just four La Liga starts and could be ready to consider a move to reunite with his former manager.
However Moyes will look to beat Mourinho to the starlet’s signature with a guarantee of first team football, which may be harder for the Blues boss to match.
Varane would have to battle the likes of David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic and probably John Terry, dependent on a contract extension, for a centre-back berth. However with both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand set to leave in the summer the former Lens man may find Man United an easier nut to crack.
