The 18-year-old hit the headlines earlier after he set the record for being the youngest player to bag a hat trick in a Dutch league game and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has identified the young man as the ideal player to help carry the club into the future.
Wenger has reportedly been tracking him for months, and now a source close to the club has confirmed the manager’s interest and has even suggested that a bid will be coming in the near future.
“Bakkali is a player that Wenger rates highly,” said the PSV source to the Dutch media.
“Arsenal have kept an eye on him and are aware that other teams want him, so could move in the summer to buy him.”
However, both Real Madrid and Benfica are also said to be interested, having sent a number of their own scouts to watch him at PSV games this season and may decide to provide competition for the Gunners.
Bakkali has often been compared to Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez thanks to his quick, agile dribbling and his ferocious eye for goal.
