Arsene Wenger apparently sees the 19 year old as a possible replacement for French veteran Bacary Sagna, who looks set to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer when his current contract comes to a close.

Chambers has impressed since breaking into the Saints first team set-up this season, making 16 appearances in all competitions, and could be the latest player to leave St Mary’s for Arsenal.

Wenger has previously brought in Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from the south-coast side and are ready to spent bid to land Chambers.

Southampton may also see another of their young charges depart in the summer with both Chelsea and Man United both chasing £30m rated left-back Luke Shaw.

Maurico Pochettino may well pay the price for his side’s impressive campaign with the likes of England trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez also bound to be targeted by top clubs in the summer.

Arsenal’s interest in Chambers may come as a blow to England international Carl Jenkinson, who may well have hoped to take the mantle as the Gunners first choice right-back if Sagna were indeed to leave.
