South Americans bream big.Bolivian champions Bolivar are hoping to pull off an astounding coup by convincing former England captain David Beckham to put his MLS franchise on hold by signing up for them, according to the Daily Mirror.
The club’s wealthy owner Marcelo Claure is one of the main men pumping funds into the 38-year-olds MLS Miami based franchise club and is hoping to coax him into playing in the side’s Copa Libetadores campaign.
Last June, Claure tweeted a picture of Beckham holding the Bolivar shirt, with the caption: “My associate in the MLS and maybe he wants to visit Bolivia and… fill the rest in yourselves.”
Bolivar president Guido Loayza admitted that Becks could make the shock move, “even if it’s only for a couple of games in the Copa Libertadores”.
Beckham is no stranger to making bold moves overseas, first leaving his beloved Manchester United for Real Madrid in Spain back in 2003. He then made the switch to the United States in 2007 when he linked up with the LA Galaxy, and during his time there he spent two separate loan spells with AC Milan before closing his career with Paris Saint Germain.
However, there has been no word from Beckham over whether he would be open to the move.
