Reports in Belgium have suggested that the Premier League leaders are taking a closer look at the explosive 20-year-old as manager Arsene Wenger looks to add more options to his front line in a bid to help support Olivier Giroud share the goal scoring burden at the Emirates.
Outcast Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner was on the scoresheet against Hull during their midweek win but being only one of two strikers currently at the club Wenger is desperate to add some more firepower. And with Bendtner largely thought to be heading for the exit door in the new year their need has become even greater if they hope to maintain their title challenge and secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
Standard Liege’s President Roland Duchatelet admitted there is wide ranging interest in his club’s latest emerging talent and also singled out the Gunners specifically.
“What is new is the interest of Arsenal, although Arsenal are just one of many clubs who are chasing our striker Michy. Anyway, we are not willing to let go Michy this season,” he said.
The Belgium under-21 international has scored 30 goals in 76 games for Standard, which includes 12 in 17 already this season.
