The Hammers have begun talks with Ligue 1 side Lyon with Gomis desperate to move for pastures new in January. The 28 year old almost joined Newcastle United in the summer and Alan Pardew has since seen loaned in striker Loic Remy perform wonderfully well.
Upton Park boss Sam Allardyce is keen to bring in a striker in January having seen his side struggle in front of goal this term, netting just 12 goals in 13 Premier League fixtures, a total that is all the more dire when you consider six of those came in the space of two 3-0 wins over Tottenham and Fulham.
Lyon want £7m for Gomis and West Ham are willing to offer £5, so given that the two valuations are not poles apart a move could well be on the cards.
Gomis has scored 73 goals for Lyon since moving to the Stade Gerland in July 2009.
