Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to add more strength in depth to his squad in January and has earmarked a move for the Dutch Under 21 international, who has previously been likened to French veteran Thierry Henry.
Rodgers has already plotted a move for Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya and is now looking to continue his youthful transfer policy with a firm offer for former Inter Milan man Castaignos.
The 21 year old failed to make an impact following his high-profile move to the San Siro but has impressed since returning to the Dutch Eredivisie, scoring eight goals in 11 appearances this term to help his side to the top of the domestic table.
With Iago Aspas struggling for form and Fabio Borini loaned out to Sunderland there is certainly scope for strengthening the Liverpool attack.
