Moyes looks to add exciting young attacking midfielder.
Manchester United manager David Moyes has his eye on a January move for exciting Hoffenheim youngster Kevin Volland, CaughtOffside understands.
The 21-year-old has been in superb form in the Bundesliga this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist playing mostly on the right flank, though he is a versatile attacker capable of playing upfront or on the opposite side as well.
His skill and versatility will certainly appeal to Moyes as he looks to improve the attacking options in his squad, with the likes of Nani, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia severely under-performing this season and much of last year as well.
The Red Devils have been linked with a whole host of big-name signings both in the summer and ahead of the winter transfer window, though it now seems that they will focus on the potential of the latest in the long line of exciting young players coming out of German football.
Volland has been a prolific scorer at youth level for Germany as well, and has five goals in twelve appearances for their Under-21 side, as he continues knock on the door for a call-up to the senior side.
His performances are certainly looking harder to ignore, and it is possible that United will face competition from other top sides by the time January comes along if the Hoffenheim starlet continues to perform as he has been doing at the start of the campaign.
Arsenal have a strong German contingent at the Emirates Stadium and are supposedly looking in the Bundesliga again for their next moves in the transfer market, having also been linked with the likes of Marco Reus, Lars Bender and Patrick Herrmann, and it is possible that Volland has found his way onto their radar as well.
Liverpool are also keen on adding wide players to their squad this January, and may be alerted to Volland’s potential availability if United move for him when the transfer window re-opens, though at the moment it is the Premier League champions that lead the chase for his signature.
Volland may have an immediate role to play for United, with Young and Valencia possibly looking likely to leave the club, while youngster Wilfried Zaha will almost certainly be making a temporary move away from Old Trafford as the likes of Newcastle, Stoke and Swansea look to sign him on loan for the second half of the season.
The promising winger could be available for around £12m, and looks like he would represent good value for money as he seems destined for a bright future in the game.
A recent high-profile addition to the Premier League from Hoffenheim was Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has impressed both in spells with Swansea and Tottenham.
