Veteran Anzhi Makhachkala front man Samuel Eto’o has decided to turn down the chance to re-join Inter Milan in favour of being reunited with former head coach Jose Mourinho at Chelsea this summer, according to reports in The Times.
The experienced Cameroon international has been made available by his big-spending Russian employers, who are currently embarking on a massive fire sale of their highest-earning star players, with Eto’o very much one of those.
However, it had been thought that the 32-year-old would reject the advances of the west London club in favour of returning to his former team Inter in Serie A, where the striker spent two hugely successful years between 2009 and 2011.
The Serie A giants were even offering Eto’o a more lucrative two-year deal, as opposed to just the one-year contract on the table at Stamford Bridge on lesser terms.
But Eto’o has instead opted for an emotional reunion with the self-styled ‘Special One’, with the pair having won the Uefa Champions League together during their time at San Siro in 2010.
And Eto’o is understood to be confident that he can earn himself an extension on that proposed one-year deal from the Blues by playing for another three years at the very highest level, after having scored 36 goals in just 71 appearances for Anzhi in the past two campaigns.
