James McCarthy- Wigan Athletic to Everton
McCarthy was one of Roberto Martinez key men during his time at Wigan. Martinez is known to rate McCarthy and is looking to bring the Irishman to his new club, Everton. Martinez sees McCarthy as a replacement for Marouane Fellaini, who looks set to join Manchester United before the transfer window closes. Reports suggest that the Spaniard will use the transfer fee that Everton receive for the Fellaini deal and spent it on McCarthy. Martinez hopes to be able to lure the Irishman to Goodison Park by offering Wigan £10 million. However, the Latics chairman Dave Whelan has made it clear that the midfielder won’t be allowed to leave for less than £20 million.
Despite Whelan’s stance, Martinez is confident that his £10 million bid will be successful as it would allow Wigan to improve their squad before the transfer window closes. McCarthy would be very interested in joining his former boss at Everton but several other clubs have also been linked with a move for the midfielder, including Tottenham. This means Everton will need to act fast in order to get their man.
