Magpies to try again for French international.
Newcastle United are to try and sign Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis again and have already opened talks with their French counterparts, Sky Sports understands.
Gomis had been a long time target for the St James’ outfit and had agreed terms with the club earlier in the summer only to see the deal break down at the last minute.
Newcastle initially pulled out of the move two weeks ago, and Lyon even began talks over a new deal for the 28-year-old, known affectionately as ‘Baby Drogba’, who has rejected numerous offers to exit the Ligue 1 giants over the past 12 months.
However, Newcastle have sought to re-open talks with the player’s representatives in the hope of wrapping up a deal after all. It is understood Gomis is willing to drop his own demands as talks begin again, which has given Newcastle the belief that a deal can now be struck before Monday’s deadline.
So far this summer Newcastle have only managed to bring in QPR striker Loic Remy on loan as well as French youngster Olivier Kemen. The club’s hierarchy have come under increasing pressure in recent weeks as they have struggled to bring in fresh faces.
