Newcastle United Send Scouts To Watch Lyon Duo

Newcastle could be preparing for life without Yohan Cabaye, as they set their sights on a double raid on Lyon for Yoann Gourcuff and Bafetimbi Gomis, according to the Metro.

Newcastle sent scouts to last night’s game between Lyon and Real Sociedad, and have been linked with a move for Gourcuff to replace Arsenal target Cabaye, who appears to have his heart set on leaving St James’ Park.

Magpies manager Alan Pardew has also said that he hopes to sign a new striker before the end of the transfer window, as he feels he has not yet adequately replaced Demba Ba, who left the club for Chelsea in January.

Loic Remy has been brought in on loan from Queens Park Rangers, but doubts remain over the consistency of the likes of Papiss Cisse and Yoann Gouffran upfront, and Gomis has been on the club’s radar already this summer.

Gomis has been one of the most prolific strikers in Ligue 1 for the last few years, while Gourcuff is considered something of a wasted talent in France, having failed to live up to the potential seen in him as a youngster.

Newcastle have done well in finding players on the cheap from France in recent times, and that trend looks set to continue with this proposed double purchase.
