Stamford Bridge veteran keen to team up with England national team colleague.
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard remains confident that the club can land Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney before the end of summer transfer window reports the Express.
The Blues manager Jose Mourinho, who admitted that Rooney is his only target this summer, has already seen two offers knocked back by their Premier League rivals for the 27-year-old England international and United are adamant that he will not be sold this summer.
Rooney came off the bench during the Premier League champions’ 4-1 victory away at Swansea but Lampard wants to see his side land his international team-mate.
The 35-year-old does believe that Mourinho usually gets his way in the transfer market, saying: “Yes he does – I think that has shown – but, when you’re talking about us here, we’ve got a big squad, we’ve got three or four strikers already.
“I think Chelsea have made their interest known. That’s a decision for them and Wayne to come to. We’re going into the season strong but, if the manager wants to add another player, we all hope he gets his man.”
Lampard starred alongside the former Everton striker on Wednesday at Wembley in England’s 3-2 friendly win over Scotland but he insists that he didn’t speak to Rooney about speculation linking him with a move to Stamford Bridge.
“I didn’t speak to Wayne about it when I was with England last week. He was training and he was focused,” the former West Ham player added.
“I’m not privy to transfer stuff. That’s for clubs to decide. I’m a player. I just keep my mouth shut and train and play.”
