Chelsea are seriously considering a move to sign veteran Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o according to the Daily Mirror.
The West London side are willing to hand the 32 year old Anzhi Makhachkala forward the two year deal he is after but one wonders if the Blues are ready to meet the player’s wage demands, which are said to be astronomical.
Jose Mourinho may well be keen to reunite with his former Inter Milan charge who is one of many at Anzhi who could be offloaded to balance the books as the Russian Premier League side look to cut back on the massive investment they have poured into the Dagestan based club.
Mourinho may feel that the experienced marksman could help to beef up his Stamford Bridge attack and there is no denying that Eto’o has been a prolific goal-scorer wherever he has played.
The former Barcelona man has racked up 288 goals in 543 club appearances, winning three La Liga titles, three Champions League winners medals and a Serie A triumph to boot.
Eto’o is the highest paid footballer on the planet with a reported wage of around £350k a weeek AFTER tax and that may not be the type of salary Roman Abamovich is ready to fork out for a player in the latter stages of his career.
