Anzhi Makhachkla striker Samuel Eto’o has welcomed interest in Chelsea, saying it would be great to work under Jose Mourinho again, according to the Daily Mail.
The Blues are reportedly considering the 32-year-old as an alternative to main target Wayne Rooney, and could land the former Barcelona star for as little as £5million following news of a financial crisis at Anzhi.
Eto’o became the best paid player in the world when he joined the Russian club from Inter Milan, where he enjoyed treble success under the management of Mourinho.
The Cameroon international spent the best years of his career at Barcelona, where he also won the Champions League twice, as well as many other titles with the Catalan giants. Despite his advancing years, he remains a top finisher, and could prove a good short-term option for Chelsea, who have been keen to sign an alternative to Fernando Torres and Demba Ba this summer.
Mourinho remains confident of landing Rooney from United, despite David Moyes’ stance that the England international won’t be sold for any price this summer.
Eto’o is also wanted back in Italy, with Napoli thought to be readying an offer for him as well.
On the prospect of playing under Mourinho again, he said: “There is only one Jose Mourinho. I have played under a lot of great coaches – but there is no other character in the game like Jose.
“He is one of the best coaches in the world – and we had a lot of success together at Inter Milan. I would like to have the chance to play under him again – because it is never boring when Jose is around.
“Of course Chelsea are a great team – and when we have all the offers on the table then I will discuss with my agent and see what my next step is.”
