Glory Coach returns to old hunting grounds

Alistair Edwards will be hoping to draw on his local experience as Perth Glory take on Johor Darul Takzim

Edwards spent a year at the side as a player in the early 90’s, as well as having spells with Selangor and Premier League side Sarawak.

The two sides will meet on Wednesday at the Larkin Stadium with The Southern Tigers using the game as preparation for their Malaysian Cup Campaign and Glory as the part of pre-season, readying themselves for the start of October’s A-League.

JDT’s ranks will be swelled with the return of several internationals after the friendly against Barcelona. While Brazilian striker Sidnei Sciola Moraes may feature for Glory.

Edwards has bought his son Ryan from Reading over to Western Australia to add more attacking options, trying to counteract the fact that Glory were last season’s lowest scorers.

Kiwi Shane Smeltz is a doubt after a skin Cancer scare, while Socceroos Jacob Burns and Michael Thwaite look likely to start.

Glory are favourites for victory, to see what they’re up against watch JDT take on Seleangor in a Malaysian FA Cup quarter-final earlier this year.
