Talks between Tottenham and Real Madrid over the transfer of Gareth Bale have broken down, with the North London thought to have serious reservations about whether the La Liga giants will be able to pay the wingers asking price, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Some at Spurs believe that Madrid are trying to take the deal right down to the final days of the transfer window, hoping that the Welshman will force his way out of White Hart Lane.

While Madrid are thought to be willing to pay Spurs around £80 million for Bale, the North London club are demanding around £104 million.

Spurs have yet to receive a formal offer for Bale and chairman Daniel Levy is now starting to doubt whether the La Liga giants will be able to pay that kind of money with the terms that Spurs want.

Madrid are hopeful that they can agree a deal for Bale whereby they pay the transfer fee back in instalments back Levy is unlikely to accept this plan.

The Spurs chairman will do a deal if at least two Real Madrid players are part of the offer.

While Fabio Coentrao is thought to be keen on a move to White Hart Lane, Alvaro Morata and Angel Di Maria are against moving to Spurs.
