Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta insists that the Gunners will add some new additions to their squad during the closing weeks of the transfer window but tells fans to remain patient reports the Independent.
The Spaniard admits that Arsene Wenger needs to bring in extra quality to help the team challenge for silverware during the new campaign with the club yet to land any major signings despite rumours of a £70m warchest at Wenger’s disposal. But Arteta is still convinced that the club will deliver on their promises, even if it takes until after the season has started.
The Emirates Stadium club submitted an improved bid for prime transfer target Luis Suarez last week but the offer of around £42million was rejected by Liverpool who are looking for nearer £50m while other summer striking target Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain decided to join Napoli instead of making the move to North London.
As yet the Gunners have only acquired French starlet Yaya Sanogo but the Arsenal vice-captain insists that the club will are working hard behind the scenes to manage to land at least one major signing this summer.
He said: “The club is working on that [a big-name signing],”
“It is in their hands and I am sure they are going to do it.
“If we can add something, we will do. But it’s very difficult to predict if something will be sorted out before we play in the Champions League qualifier.”
The former Everton man is also confident that any new signings will help to improve the squad helping the Gunners to finally end their eight-year trophy drought.
“If the club can target players who will improve the team they are going to be very welcome because that is what we want — a better team, better players to compete and win trophies,” added Arteta.
“The club is working on that, it is in their hands and I am sure they are going to do it. We have two weeks to go until the start of the season.”
