Former White Hart Lane flop could make surprise La Liga switch.
Former Tottenham Hotspur winger David Bentley is a free transfer target for Espanyol and FC Utrecht as he searches for a new club according to Sky Sports.
The ex-England international was released by Spurs at the end of last season after spending five-years with the White Hart Lane side and a number of clubs are believed to be keen on signing the 28-year-old who is regarded as one of the most attractive free agents around this summer.
Various European clubs are thought to be keeping tabs on Bentley with the Peterborough-born player keen to fix himself up before the new season begins.
Spanish side Espanyol are looking to add reinforcements to their squad ahead of the new Primera Liga campaign and the former Blackburn Rovers winger is thought to be on manager Javier Aguirre’s transfer wishlist.
While Dutch outfit Utrecht, who completed last season’s Eredivisie in fifth place last season, are keen to add the right-winger to their squad with coach Jan Wouters understood to be an admirer of the one-time Arsenal youth product.
Bentley found himself out of favour at White Hart Lane and spent some of last season out on-loan from Spurs with FC Rostov, making seven appearances for the Russian club and would reportedly have no issues with playing abroad again during the new season.
He could prove to be one of the bargain signings of the transfer window if he can rediscover the form which helped him win seven caps for England between 2007 and 2008.
