Tottenham could move for Roma duo Miralem Pjanic and Erik Lamela with the proceeds from Gareth Bale’s proposed sale to Real Madrid according to the Daily Express.
With the La Liga side increasing their efforts to land the Welsh international star this summer, with the latest reports from The Mirror suggesting a £105m transfer fee has been agreed, Spurs will have copiously enough money to find top-quality replacements.
Sources in Italy now suggest the new Spurs technical director Franco Baldini could return to his previous to pilfer highly-rated youngsters Pjanic and Lamela as they look to strengthen with the potential money received from Bale.
Andre Villas-Boas has reportedly been keeping track of the pair at the Stade de Olimpico and that could see a £44m bid being made to land the starlets this summer.
Lamela, an exciting attacker, is valued at around £31m by Roma and Spurs had shown interest in the Argentine before Baldini arrived at White Hart Lane. While Pjanic, a Bosnian midfielder, 23, has been attracting the attentions of Arsenal during this summer and could be obtainable for around £13m.
However Pjanic, despite his smaller pricetag, could prove a harder target for Spurs to secure after he recently claimed he wanted to remain in Rome.
“I don’t want to leave,” said Pjanic. “Everyone here knows that.”
Roma boss Rudi Garcia won’t want to see two of his best players depart before the start of the Serie A season but given the possible lucrative double offer from White Hart Lane it could prove hard to resist.
Spurs are set to fly out to Monaco later today with the hot topic whether or not Bale board the flight and gets a run out for Villas-Boas side with Madrid waiting in the wings.
