Loftus Road midfielder wants Ligue 1 return.
Check in to Manchester City vs Newcastle United
Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has rejected talk of a move to Everton and has instead admitted he would like to return to Marseille reports Sky Sports
The controversial player finished last season on loan with the Ligue 1 side and he confirmed on his favourite social network Twitter that he would like to return for a chance to play Champions League football.
Barton then appeared to also dismiss suggestions from his agent Willie Mckay that he any desire to join his boyhood club Everton despite speculation to the contrary.
“It’s well known who I support. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work that out,” Barton wrote on Twitter.
“Good football agents will always be looking to move players, that’s how they make money.
“Recent rumours are slightly wide of the mark, everyone knows where I would like to end up, in France, playing in the Champions League for Olympique Marseille, nothing has changed my end.
“If not, I am contracted to QPR and will give my all to help them regain their Premier League status.
“If something happens and both clubs decide differently, than I will assess my options.”
The 30-year-old still had two years on his contract left at Loftus Road and he is demanding £3m to cancel the deal early while it would cost the Championship club over £7m if he was to remain at the West London club for the rest of his deal.
He is currently back training with Harry Redknapp’s side ahead of the start of the Championship season on Saturday but a move back to France could be on the cards with Marseille keen to take him back to the Stade Velodrome for the new campaign. However it will be down to the player to negotiate a way out of Loftus Road with the French side unwilling to pay a fee for the former Newcastle man.
