Leighton Baines- Everton to Manchester United
Baines is one of the most gifted full-backs currently playing in the Premier League and has had a huge role in Everton’s recent success under David Moyes. Baines was one of the Moyes most trusted lieutenants at Goodison Park and now the Scot wants to bring the 28 year old with him to his new job at Manchester United. One of the many issues that Moyes needs to address at Old Trafford is that fact that the clubs first choice left back, Patrice Evra may need replacing sooner rather than later. The Frenchman is approaching the end of his career and it is thought that fresh legs are needed in that position.
Moyes wants Baines to fill Evra’s role and has already submitted a bid to his former club to try and buy the defender. However, Everton rejected the bid and have told Moyes that he will need to pay around £18 million to sign the England international. The Scot is set to return to Goodison Park with an improved offer but it is unlikely to be close to Everton’s valuation, meaning both sides are at a stale mate. However, Baines would love the opportunity of working with Moyes again and would like to test himself in the Champions League. If he makes it known to Everton that he wants to leave, the club may have no alternative but to sell.
