Anzhi Star Willian Admits Interest In Making Premier League Move

The forward admits that he will need to move to a more competitive league in the future to realise his potential.

Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian has admitted that he would like to move to the Premier League in the future as in order to realise his full potential, he needs to be playing in one of Europe’s big leagues, Goal.com reports.

Willian joined Anzhi from Shakhtar Donetsk for £30 million in January and despite being happy playing for the Russian club, he feels that another move in essential for his continued development.

“I tried to leave Shakhtar for over a year, but couldn’t do it,” Willian explained.

“I had offers from big English clubs and from other places, but Shakhtar never accepted them. Anzhi were the only ones who agreed to pay for my release clause. I have enormous affection and respect for this club, but everybody knows that my dreams and desires haven’t changed”.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham were known to be interested in the Brazilian before he moved to Anzhi but Willian claims that Shakhtar blocked any attempts for him to move to England.

“I tried every possible way to negotiate my exit, showing my desire to play for a big club, but they never really cared about it,” he said.

The news that Willian is still interested in a move to England may make Tottenham and Chelsea renew their interest in the Brazilian, with both clubs looking to strengthen their attacks this summer.

Willian’s knows that the chances of him being in Brazil’s squad for next summers World Cup would greatly increase if he were to play for a big club in the Premier League.
