What looked to be a done deal has been called into question following Torres’ mysterious tweet.
Gabriel Torres’ highly-anticipated transfer to Colorado Rapids is suddenly in doubt, following weeks of certainty.
Torres tweeted the following on Tuesday night:
Buenas noches señores hasta este momento nada es oficial se esta en negociaciones con diferentes clubes pronto se sabra el club oficial !
— gaby torres (@gaby_torres_10) July 31, 2013
Loosely translated, he said, “Good evening gentlemen so far nothing is official it is in negotiations with several clubs soon will know the official club!”
The clubs of which he speaks are believed to be a Mexican side and AJ Auxerre, who had been considering Torres before he was even linked with the Rapids.
The Panama number nine starred against the USMNT in his nation’s Gold Cup Final defeat, and would add some much-needed quality up front for the Rapids.
Regardless of whom Torres elects to sign with, what is certain is that the striker will not be eligible to play against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, much to the disappointment of the Colorado Rapids organisation.
Torres was in excellent form last season to help his club Zamora FC to the Venezuelan Primera Division title and a Copa America spot, his 12 goals in the Apertura and 11 in the Clausura making him the league top scorer overall.
