Arsenal striker Gervinho is set to join Roma after the Italian giants submitted an improved bid of £7million for the Ivory Coast international reports the Daily Star.
The Gunners reportedly knocked back at £6m offer for the Serie A club but they have now returned with a better offer that is likely to be accepted by the Emirates Stadium.
New Roma coach Rudi Garcia wants a reunion at the Stadio Olimpico with the forward he knows well from their time spent at French side Lille.
And the Daily Star reports an Italian source as saying: “Garcia has made Gervinho his top choice.
“He knows only too well of his capabilities and that is why Roma will pay a higher price.”
It is understood that personal terms have already been agreed between the 26-year-old and his possible new Italian side with just a small compromise on the fee needed to complete the deal.
Gervinho has been a disappointment at the North London club with just nine Premier League goals since his £11m transfer from Lille in 2011.
The player, who had previously said he wanted to remain at the Emirates for the new season, has now been told to find a new club after he was left at home by Arsene Wenger during the club’s recent pre-season tour.
Reports from Italy claim that Roma are planning to include striker Pablo Osvaldo in a part-exchange deal for the attacker but Arsenal are only keen to recoup the transfer fee laid out on Gervinho just two years ago.
