Blues only have one striking target, and that is the England attacker.
Chelsea are said to be so confident of signing unsettled Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney this summer that they do not even have a back-up option should the much talked-about transfer not happen, according to exclusive reports in the Daily Star.
The west London club have been closely monitoring the England international’s situation at Old Trafford for some time now, and have already had one offer of £20 million for the 27-year-old rejected by the Premier League champions.
However, the Blues are now waiting for United to conclude their own purchase of FC Barcelona midfield player Cesc Fabregas this summer before returning with a second improved bid for Rooney, who has scored an impressive 197 goals for the Red Devils in just 401 matches since arriving in the north west from Everton nine years ago.
But either way, returning Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho is understood to be relaxed about the whole situation, with the Portuguese certain that Rooney wants to quit United this summer and make the move south to Stamford Bridge.
And as such, the self-styled ‘Special One’ does not intend to scout the transfer market for alternative striking options should the Rooney deal collapse.
