Chelsea striker looking set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts
Chelsea striker Demba Ba looks set to leave the club after just six months according to The Times.
The Senegalese forward started last season in blistering form for Newcastle, persuading Chelsea to splash on his signature during the January transfer window.
He started his Stamford Bridge career impressively, notably netting a stunning volley against Manchester United in the FA Cup, but his performances faded away as the season progressed.
New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has now made his assessment of the Chelsea squad and has made bringing in a new striker one of his top priorities. He has told Ba that he is surplus to requirements and will use funds from his sale to make new signings.
Ba’s former club, West Ham, were thought to have made enquiries about bringing the player back to Upton Park but is understood the player himself turned down those advances.
Wealthy Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala looks a more likely destination with the Chelsea having already opened talks.
It is understood that Ba is tempted by the prospect of joining up with Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o. That could swing the decision for Ba, who is disappointed by his treatment at Chelsea after such a small amount of time at the club.
