Dutch giants clear path for Premier League sides.
Eredivise champions Ajax have confirmed that they are not interested in signing Adam Maher from rivals AZ Alkmaar, according to Sky Sports.
The highly rated 19-year-old has been on the radars of several Premier League sides including Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur and they now apparently only have each other to contend with after Marc Overmars ruled out the Amsterdam giants making a move for him.
Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Overmars said: “I have called Adam and his agent Sigi Lens to tell them we will make other choices.
“I have also informed AZ that we are no longer interested.”
However, it had been previously thought that the midfielder would rather stay in Holland rather than move to England, so the aforementioned clubs may face a task in convincing him to leave his current side.
Maher first broke into the Alkmaar side in 2010 and has gone on to make 94 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals. His form over the previous two seasons has seen him break into the Dutch national side and he has already collected four caps.
He was a member of the squad that won the KNVB Cup this season.
