Centre back staying with Serie A outfit.
Italian side Cagliari have ruled out the sale of their prized central defender Davide Astori this summer, according to Sky Sports.
Th 26-year-old has been a target for Tottenham in recent weeks as well as being on the radars on Southampton and Russian side Rubin Kazan, though reports in Italy at the weekend suggested that his former club AC Milan are preparing to make a bid.
However, the Sardinian side’s director, Francesco Marroccu, has ruled out any sale of the Italian international by saying: “Davide Astori is a point of reference for the future. He is a player that we would not consider selling. Cagliari will start again from him. He represents us on the world stage and he is a certainty for us.
“And we have not forgotten when he rejected a move to Spartak Moscow last year in order to remain here. That gesture made us proud.”
Astori joined Cagliari in 2008 after graduating from the academy in Milan. He made no appearances for the Rossoneri but spent two loan spells with Pizzighettone and Cremonese before joining the islanders.
Last season saw him turn out 30 times and his form has earned him a call up to take part in Italy’s Confederations Cup campaign.
