Italian side Cagliari are reportedly preparing a bid for Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone, according to talkSPORT.
The 25-year-old came through the youth ranks at Arsenal after being snapped up in 2005 from Atalanta’s academy for £350,000, but he has failed to nail down a regular starting berth in north London having made just 27 appearances across all competitions.
He had enjoyed successful loan spells with Barnsley and Hull City, with the latter taking him on board twice but now the Sardinian side look set to offer him an escape route from Arsenal.
This season had been his most prolific to date for the Gunners after the loss of form of Wojciech Szczesny and injuries sustained by Lukasz Fabianski, but Fabianksi soon relegated him back to third choice once he had returned to full fitness. With Arsene Wenger in the market for a new goalkeeper to make the number one jersey his own, the chances of Mannone playing any more than he has done are slim.
Italian sports website Calciomercato.it claims that Cagliari have been watching the former Italian under-21 international for sometime and will press ahead with a move to instal him as their first choice custodian.
