Swansea City could take Jonathan de Guzman on loan again next season after failing to agree a fee with Villareal for a permanent move, according to Wales Online.
The 25-year-old had an impressive season with the Swans in 2012/13, scoring eight goals in all competitions for the club, including a brace in their Capital One Cup final victory over Bradford City.
Villareal have just won promotion back to La Liga, putting them in a stronger position to negotiate a transfer, and are thought to be asking for around £7million for the Dutchman.
This may be too high for Swansea, who are keen to bring in players on the cheap this summer as they did so successfully last year, with the likes of Michu and Chico arriving from La Liga for just £2million each and becoming key players for the club as they finished 9th in the Premier League.
However, there is still the possibility that they will renew de Guzman’s loan at the Liberty Stadium, and review the situation again next summer.
Swansea are also being linked with a move for West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie, who should be available after a dispute with the Baggies over trying to leave the club in January.
