Highly rated goalkeeper going nowhere.
German side Hannover 96 have told Liverpool to forget about signing goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, according to talkSPORT.
The 24-year-old has been on Brendan Rodgers’ shortlist of names to replace Pepe Reina this summer as the Spanish custodian’s future is still uncertain and the German international has become one of the most highly rated goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.
Zieler joined Hannover from Manchester United in 2010. He left Old Trafford without making a single appearance but did turn out twice for League Two side Northampton Town. He has now fully established himself in the Bundesliga having not missed a game in the previous two seasons, earning a call up to the German national side in the process.
With Reina consistently linked with a move to Barcelona, Brendan Rodgers has been thought to be keen on offering him a route back into English football.
However, Hannover president, Martin Kind, has rebuffed those reports by denying that a sale is in the pipeline.
“We do not need money. We want to continue to grow,” he said.
Hannover finished ninth in the Bundesliga table this season but are hoping to mount another challenge to enter the Europa League after dropping out to Russian side Anzhi in the round of 16.
