Premier League basement boys already line up new recruit.
Reading are already lining up new recruits for next term and have reportedly targeted FC Groningen winger Leandro Bacuna, Sky Sports reports.
The 21-year-old has apparently caught the eye this season with a series of impressive displays and he has so far scored five goals in 29 appearances for the Eredivise club.
Bacuna is highly rated in his homeland as he has collected 10 Dutch under-21 caps and his agent, Henk-Maarten Chin, believes that a move to Berkshire is on the cards sooner rather than later: “I do not deny that Reading is interested in Bacuna. He is a real box-to-box player and that they find interesting in England,” he said.
However, Groningen’s managing director, Hans Nijland, has moved to refute those claims by saying; “At present, no club has come forward and spoken to Groningen about any player.”
Reading’s season is considered over by many, including those at the club as Nigel Adkins prepares for life in the Championship next season, so it remains to be seen whether Bacuna will wait to see what other options open up to him, but the English Championship is highly regarded in Europe and if Adkins can make a convincing argument for the Royals’ chances at an immediate return then a year in the second tier may not be the worst move he could make.
