Benitez eyes up striker partner for El Nino
The Rumour
Roma are looking to cash-in on Mirko Vucinic, and his future could be with one of the Premier League’s big boys, according to Il Corriere Dello Sport.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all said to have made enquiries regarding the Montenegrin hitman. The report suggests the Reds have made indirect contact with Roma as boss Rafael Benitez wants Vucinic to partner Fernando Torres up front.
United made a bid last year for the forward but had it turned down. Things are different his summer. Roma are in need of funds after Vinico Fioranelli’s failed takeover bid and the Giallorossi have already revealed that some important players could be leaving.
“I cannot guarantee that certain players will stay,” sporting director Daniele Prade told Il Corriere Dello Sport.
The capital club have valued Vucinic at around €23 million as they look to balance their books.

The Analysis
I have to admit that the first few times I saw Mirko Vucinic in action I wasn’t impressed I thought he was a bit of bean pole who lacked the ability to play the ball on the ground but I was convinced of his ability when he finally got his goalscoring boots back on in his second season at the Stadio Olimpico.
Whilst at Lecce he managed to become a big fish in a small pond and like many other strikers who have made the jump up to the big boys he struggled at first, especially with other top strikers at the club but in the last two seasons he has made himself a first team regular.
I can see why Rafa would consider him to be a good partner for Fernando Torres as he could clearly work well knocking down balls for the Spaniard as well as doing some of the dirty work in and around the penalty area, the only stumbling block could be the valuation placed on the 25 year old which is a little inflated.
