Mr. Wenger opens a can of worms!
Arsene Wenger has done little to kill speculation that he could be poised for a summer move to Real Madrid by admitting that if Florentino Perez wins the Spanish club’s election then the Bernabeu job would be a ‘strongly interesting’ proposition.
Perez announced his candidacy for the top job at Real during the week and the architect of the galacticos era is reported to be keen on bringing Wenger to the Bernabeu, having failed with a previous attempt to lure him from Arsenal in 2003.
Wenger remains contracted to The Gunners until 2011 and has always underlined that he will never walk out on the club that introduced him to English football in 1996.
But the Frenchman has for the first time been the subject of real criticism from some supporters after a fourth consecutive season without a trophy and has hardly ruled out a possible move to Spain.
“With Perez the project will be strongly interesting for every coach,” he told Telefoot.
“In general I always go right to the end of my contract.”
When asked directly if he had spoken with Perez, Wenger replied: “Allow me to remain discreet on that matter.” (Setanta Sports)
This is not the kind of report Arsenal fans want to be reading as yet another trophy less seasons draws to an end. Whilst it is never wise to jump to conclusions you have to ask yourself why would Arsene say such things or more importantly why would he place himself in a situation by even bothering to answer these kind of leading questions?
