It’s all very easy to start slating Rovers and their manager at the moment, especially as they sit in nineteenth place. However, many of us were sceptical about Paul Ince’s ability to manage in the English top flight at the start of the season, especially as his experience to date was with MK Dons and Macclesfield in League Two.
The former Manchester United and West Ham player is struggling to steer his side to a Premier League win at the moment, with Blackburn losing 1-0 at White Hart Lane on Sunday. The Times reports that Ince was involved in a set-to with Spurs assistant Joe Jordan, with the former’s confrontational style earning him few friends at the moment.
Blackburn have not won a league game for two months and their chances of beating Tottenham disappeared when Martin Olsson was sent off after a series of crude challenges on Aaron Lennon in the first half. Ince and Jordan squared up in the tunnel after the Tottenham coach complained to Howard Webb, the referee, about Blackburn’s tackling in the first half.
“Joe Jordan was talking to the referee about André Ooijer and saying that he kicked Lennon two or three times,” the Blackburn manager said. “We’d already had a man sent off and he was trying to get another man sent off.”
Ince had a similar slanging match with Ray Wilkins a few weeks ago, when the Chelsea assistant had claimed that Blackburn were ‘over-physical’. Can the self-styled Guvnor turn things around at the Lancashire club, or is he struggling to motivate his troops after a bright start to their campaign?
