Blackburn manager hits back at Chelsea assistant following ‘aggressive’ claims

Paul Ince is a feisty young manager who is demonstrating that he’s prepared to fight tooth and nail to defend his team. There were one or two unsavoury (but accurate?) things said about Blackburn in the build-up to Sunday’s match with Chelsea, and the Rovers boss went about putting things right with one or two well-chosen words.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Ince was far from happy with Ray Wilkins’ comments regarding the Lancashire club in advance of the Blues’ 2-0 victory. Butch claimed that Rovers were aggressive and over-physical, a tag that they have had for several seasons, which seemed to incense Ince to the point where the pair nearly had a fight by the final whistle.

Ince said: “Of course I was a physical character as a player but you don’t play for the teams I did if you are just that. All the teams I have managed have played football.

“For him to come out with that garbage about us trying to put them on their backsides and that we are over-physical – well we weren’t like that today, we played some decent football.

“I just said to him next time you are going to say something make sure you get your facts right. I told him that in no uncertain terms.”

Indeed, only a couple of Blackburn players were cautioned in this match, despite the slippery conditions. However, Chelsea have demonstrated after victories at Blackburn, Stoke and Hull that they can stand up to the challenge posed by some of the more physical teams in the division, are the Blues fast on the way to becoming Premier League champions?
