John Terry blamed the lack of fight for Chelsea’s 3-1 reversal in Rome, and it was certainly uncharacteristic of a team who have been winning plenty of games in the Premier League this season. This was their second defeat of the season, and one of the Blues’ former managers reckons that the team are not consistent enough under Phil Scolari. What an odd thing to say!
After all, Chelsea lead the way in the Premier League and have generally been rock solid at the back, conceding just four goals in eleven matches. However, the Daily Mail reports that Gianluca Vialli is not impressed with the team at the moment, claiming that they can only beat the smaller sides and ignoring the fact that they are the only team with a 100% record on the road in the league.
Vialli said: ‘I don’t think Chelsea are the same team as they were a few years ago. They don’t have the consistency any more.
‘They were beaten by Manchester United in the final of the Champions League last season and also lost against Liverpool at home the other week. Before they used to beat these teams.’
While their 86-match unbeaten home record may have come to an end against Liverpool, Chelsea are still favourites to win the Premier League this season, with many commenting that they play a far more exciting brand of football under Scolari than they did with Mourinho. In addition, the team have not yet been consistent enough to win the Champions League, are supporters confused by Vialli’s comments or does the Italian have a point?
