David Bentley has issued a damning verdict on Tottenham’s awful start to the season, claiming the players have not known what they are supposed to be doing.
Spurs tonight visit Udinese, lying second in Italy’s Serie A, in their first UEFA Cup group game. And given Bentley’s view, the portents are not good.
Speaking to talkSPORT magazine, he said: ‘It’s been shocking. It’s been difficult, especially for me. I wasn’t enjoying it. We’ve not been together; we didn’t know where people were running, what people were doing. But I think we’re slowly starting to get settled.’ (Daily Mail)
Is it just me or does that sound like a thinly-veiled attack at the tactics handed down by Juande Ramos? Or is it just that he is emphasizing that it takes a while for new additions to gel together? Either way, it neatly skirts around the issue of players seemingly not giving a damn, and not being up for the fight. Hopefully Spurs will get something from their trip to Italy tonight, but it won’t be easy, although it could serve as respite from the Premier League mess.
Do Tottenham fans think that Bentley is neatly side-stepping the issue by appearing to blame his manager for the club’s shocking start?
