Newcastle United are pretty rudderless at the moment; no manager, an owner who wants to sell, and freshly dumped out of the Carling Cup at the hands of fellow subterranean Premier League losers Spurs. Yet they still retain the hope of having someone, anyone, take on the role of manager.
Next up on the very short St James’ shortlist? None other than El Tel.
The S*n, in all their worldly wisdom, reckon that Venables will have an answer for Newcastle by today, which surely means that the ex-England boss is at least entertaining the thought of filling the shoes of Kevin “The Geordie Messiah” Keegan.
In an “exclusive” chin-wag with The S*n, Venables said: “I can confirm I met Newcastle representatives today. Those talks will continue in the morning when, hopefully, I can give them a final decision.”
And while El-Tel thinks this opportunity over, Mike Ashley is still scrambling to flog the club to anyone who’ll stump up the dosh. In short, utter chaos, is the state of affairs at St James’.
