Let’s face it, Oasis went downhill after their first two albums, although that hasn’t stopped them making shedloads of cash from recording several dud albums since and going on a string of tours. Their success has elevated the Gallagher brothers into stardom, and one of them has exclaimed his delight upon hearing about his club’s newly-found wealth.
ITN reports that Noel Gallagher, the talented brother in the group, is in Canada at the moment and only heard about the news when some of his mates texted him about the Man City takeover. The guitarist and songwriter has wasted no time having a dig at United about this, especially as he reckons they ended up paying an arm and a leg for their high-profile signing.
He said: “They were telling me to put on the news, we’ve been bought by some Arab prince.
“I was laughing at first, thinking ‘I can’t quite believe it’, and just before we went on stage I found out we’ve signed Robinho.
“I can only assume they’ve offered him a fortune because there is no other reason he’d come to City from Real Madrid – we’re not even in the Champions League.”
Gallagher, who was raised in Burnage, Manchester, added: “I’m also pleased we’ve managed to swindle Man United out of a few bob as they’ve had to pay over the odds for Berbatov.
“It’ll be nice to know that every gallon of petrol a Manchester United fan buys is going into our kitty.”
At least Gallagher is a realist with regard to his comments about Robinho, although it may be less than a year before City are playing Champions League football. Especially if they manage to land just a fraction of their January transfer targets, the list is growing long already!
