Poor old Peter Kenyon, he must have some explaining to do with Roman Abramovich, after the Chelsea chief executive missed out on signing Robinho over the past few days despite numerous trips to Real Madrid. The Brazilian instead opted for a move to sunny Manchester, although is this a blessing in disguise for last season’s Premier League runners-up?
Pele certainly seems to think so, claiming that his compatriot has been badly-advised following his £32.5 million move to Eastlands. It appeared as though the forward was emotionally unbalanced during his final few days with the Spanish champions, bursting into tears on a regular basis when coming face-to-face with the chairman. Setanta report that many are of the opinion that Robinho has not behaved very well over the past few days.
But, after the Abu Dhabi United Group agreed a club takeover, Manchester City swooped in on the final day to complete a £32.5 million deal and Pele feels the player has made a major mistake.
“Chelsea are lucky,” he said. “This boy needs some serious counselling.
“In my view he has been badly advised.”
Robinho also faced criticism from his first club, Santos, who believe he has acted ‘disgracefully’ in recent weeks.
“This is one of the most disgraceful episodes in Brazilian football,” said club president Marcelo Teixeira.
“He is a player who is an idol to children – an example – but he has not acted like one.”
It does appear as though the player has thrown a fair few tantrums in order to secure a move away from the Bernabeu and then, after claiming he was ‘only thinking about Chelsea’, the pacy forward promptly ups and leaves for Eastlands. Perhaps he meant that he was thinking about City’s next match which happens to be against Scolari’s men – that will be an interesting one!
