West Ham don’t care about me’ claims keeper – are the club running short of cash?

Upon signing for Fulham earlier this week, Bobby Zamora claimed that he wouldn’t be the last one to leave Upton Park this summer. The former Brighton and Spurs striker gave the impression that West Ham seemed to be short of a bob or two, and that also appears to be the case when you hear the latest rant from their number one goalkeeper.

Robert Green has been an important player for the Hammers over the past couple of seasons, although The Sun reports that this seemingly counts for nothing as far as a new contract is concerned. It appears as though the club are not even prepared to discuss improved terms with the former Norwich cat – he doesn’t sound all that joyous about it.

Green, a £2million arrival from Norwich two years ago, said: “No matter what the figures are in the workplace in terms of wages, you either feel a valued member of your staff or you don’t.

“At the moment, I don’t and clearly West Ham don’t care about me.

“We’ve a whole host of players who have arrived on a lot of money since the takeover and, fair play, you take what you can get and I have no problem with that.

“Some of them have played, others have been injured, but I feel I have played a part and been good value.

“If you put the strongest West Ham XI out, I’d be the lowest earner by a long, long way. I do not even want to be close to the top earner at the club — I don’t care about that. I would just like some parity.

“Other guys are getting rewarded but I’m not. It’s been reported that one player has been offered so many millions to go away.”

While one has little sympathy for the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Cristiano Ronaldo and Arjen Robben when they moan about how much they’re being paid, perhaps Green has a point in this instance. After all, he has been a rock-solid performer for the Hammers over the past couple of campaigns and the fact he’s a goalkeeper shouldn’t mean he earns less than some of his injured team-mates.

However, this will do nothing to allay the fears that the club are battening down the hatches as far as their finances are concerned.
