Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has finally admitted what we all knew anyway: Valencia player David Villa is on his list of potential striker recruits after Peter Crouch’s impending departure to Portsmouth.
But is David Villa the right man to play alongside Torres next season?
“We have Torres, Voronin, Kuyt, Babel and Steven Gerrard, who can play as a second striker,” Benitez told Liverpool FC website. “But we will try to bring in another option.
“Villa we know all about. He is on our list. But maybe it will be difficult.”
Villa, 26, impressed at Euro 2008, scoring four times as Spain won their first major trophy in 44 years, although he missed out on the final through injury.
With Spurs striker Robbie Keane, 27, also a target, who do Liverpool fans want to see partner Fernando Torres up front next season?
Would David Villa thrive at Liverpool against Bolton on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon in November? Can the mercurial Spaniard withstand the weekly kickings that Premier league defenders regularly dish out?
Or should Rafa try and persuade Spurs to sell Keane, a proven Premier League goalscorer, who bagged 23 goals last season in 54 appearances in all competitions?
