This Anfield giant seems destined for a move to the south coast as Rafa looks for more spending money.
Harry Redknapp is ready to make a final offer of £10million to Liverpool for striker Peter Crouch.
The Portsmouth boss had a £9m bid rejected last week but refuses to pay Rafa Benitez’s £15m asking price.
Redknapp believes £10m is realistic considering Crouch has less than 12 months left on his Anfield contract.
Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie said: “Harry has made it clear he wants Peter Crouch.
“He’s the sort of quality we want to add We’re not giving up.”
Redknapp has made Crouch his No.1 transfer target after a contract row with Kanu, who wants a two-year extension rather than 12 months. (Daily Mirror)
Tottenham are still interested but Pompey will seal the deal if they can come up with some extra cash over the weekend. Expect an announcement on Monday . The England striker wants to work with Harry Redknapp and Liverpool need the funds for other deals – namely Gareth Barry and Robbie Keane. (The Insider – Daily Mail)
Peter Crouch seems to be running out of time on Merseyside. His three year tenure at the club has seen some ups and downs, of course it took a long time for him to win over the fans but he managed to do just that and after 40 goals in 92 starts it may be the end of the road. Portsmouth’s bid is reportedly being mulled over by Rafa and if the deal is done then Fratton Park will have a pretty sharp strike pairing of Crouch and Defoe. Do Liverpool fans think that Rafa should reconsider his decision to sell the England international?
