Whilst it remains to be seen just how many players Barcelona will be getting rid of this summer, the sale of Deco and the rumours surrounding Ronaldinho prove that new boss Pep Guardiola is more than prepared to shake things up at the Catalan club. So it’s no surprise to hear that a certain Barcelona striker could be headed back to London soon enough.
Clubcall is reporting that West Ham are currently holding off Portsmouth in a hotly-contested race to sign Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Barcelona new coach Josep Guardiola looks set to rebuild their forward line so it is possible that they may allow him to leave for around the £5m mark.
West Ham boss Alan Curbishley would have no problem funding that sort of move but he would face competition for the striker’s signiture as Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth is also keen on the player. (Clubcall)
Gudjohnsen would be a fantastic signing for West Ham, especially since the Icelandic footballer already knows the ropes of playing in the EPL after his stint with Chelsea. And based on the current £5m number being thrown about, the London club wouldn’t have to break the bank to sign him.
Would West Ham supporters welcome a move for Gudjohnsen? Is he still good enough to help bolster the squad up front?
